Job Description: Canada’s National Ballet School is currently accepting applications for the Part-Time Contract position of
KITCHEN ASSISTANT (Contract position from approximately September 5, 2017 until end of July, 2018)
Reporting to the Chef de Cuisine, the incumbent will support the Food Services Department by helping with food preparation and service, clearing and cleaning dishes, and providing assistance to students and staff as required. Compensation is $15.00 per hour plus vacation pay.
Hours of work:
• Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
• Monday 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
• Tuesday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
• Wednesday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Necessary Skills and Experience: Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
• Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience as a Kitchen Assistant in a professional/institutional kitchen;
• Current experience in a cafeteria-style environment;
• Basic knowledge of nutritional hot/cold food preparation/presentation and safe knife handling skills;
• Knowledge of food safety standards; Food Handler Certificate would be an asset;
• Good understanding of sanitation and cleanliness issues, including knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Duties: Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists with Kitchen production activities as they relate to the service of meals, snacks, and drinks to students by assembling food items and responding to special/restricted dietary requirements;
• Assists the Cook with the preparation of hot and cold food items and plate food portions;
• Replenishes supplies by monitoring and keeping track of usage;
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment by keeping serving area and kitchen clean and tidy, putting excess food away and clearing away waste, and by following instructions regarding cleanliness and sanitation;
• Adheres to all School, HACCP, and municipal food handling policies, standards, and guidelines in the course of food preparation and handling of leftovers;
• Accurately records, in written form, all relevant HACCP and production numbers, values, temperatures, and quantities as required for HACCP and production log sheets;
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned to contribute to the team effort and achieve the objectives of the Food Services Department.
